International Atomic Energy Agency chief Rafael Grossi says Syria’s cooperation has helped resolve questions about its past nuclear activities that remained unanswered for nearly two decades. According to Syria TV, Grossi said access to relevant locations and information allowed inspectors to clarify outstanding safeguards issues, including those concerning a suspected undeclared reactor in Deir ez-Zor. The agency’s board subsequently agreed to end Syria’s noncompliance status. International monitoring continues, however, and approximately 73 tonnes of natural uranium remain under IAEA safeguards.
